Arts & Change

The campus »Arts and Social Change« at the Harburg Inland Port introduces itself:

Drive - A video about EAST

Our student Anna Clarks has produced a video about the study program Expressive Arts in Social Transformation (EAST). A artistic approach toward the university life:

»Gothinking«

Expressive Arts in Social Transformation (EAST): We philosophize about non-linear thinking and choose the walk in ever-changing compositions. The video owes itself to one of these walks - according to Peter Handke: »I have never been to the places I was driven to, only when I walk, do I open the rooms and dance the spaces between them! Only when I walk, do I turn with the apples in the tree, only the one who walks walks, a head grows on his shoulders. Only the walking one experiences the bales on his feet. Only the goer feels a pull through his body. Only the goer grasps the tall tree in his ear - the silence! To come in and come to yourself, only what the goer thinks, applies.«

Intermedial Practice

Working with different artistic media is a profile feature of all arts-applied courses at the MSH Medical School Hamburg: Intermedial Art Therapy, Art Analog Coaching, Art and Critical Thinking (ACT) and Expressive Arts in Social Transformation (EAST). A low-threshold approach to the arts is sought, which is at the same time sensible - and demanding.

Art in Change Processes: "Arts in Social Transformation"

How can organizations, groups and individuals be future-oriented? And what role can art and culture play in this development? What support do we receive from the creative potential of art and how can art make a relevant contribution to the shaping of social change processes? Prof. Dr. Hannes Jahn speaks about »Arts in Social Transformation« on the occasion of the founding of the Institute for Subjective Experience and Research (ISER):

Art and Science: »The world in a nutshell«

»If we want to know something, we usually try to make the world linguistically available, we develop theories, models and constructions about the world we live in. We create encyclopaedias and knowledge bases in which we manage our answers we have a retrievable knowledge that we have entrusted to them, but what about the one that does not dispose of because it demands our attention, our presence, and our concern for them? What about the treasures of knowledge about which we can not be certain because they are not simply reproducible: Things that appear to us in their uniqueness, events that require empathy, encounters that take place in silence or that can only be heard in their sound, their smell, their appearance or their movement?« Prof. Peter Sinapius speaks about »Art and Science« on the occasion of the founding of the Institute for Subjective Experience and Research (ISER):

Arts in Social Transformation on YouTube

The bachelor program »Expressive Arts in Social Transformation« (EAST) introduces itself: Artistically working with people - in educational institutions, in the district, in the penitentiary, in the museum, in companies, with children, the elderly and the sick, in conflicts as well as in crisis situations. It takes experience and competence in artistic practice to know how to open up the possibilities, how something new comes into the world, how change is shaped.
